General Info
Q: What time will the races start?
A: The half marathon will start at 7:00 AM and the 5K will start at 7:15 AM. The Duckling Dash will start at 9:30 AM.
Q: Do you allow walkers in the Hungry Duck Run?
A: Non-competitive walkers are welcome to register for the 5K event. No special awards will be available for walkers.
Q: Are there any Parking locations and restrictions?
A: The City of Brighton has asked that runners not park downtown. Parking is available at Brighton High School and shuttles will be available.
Q: What type of race day transportation will be offered?
A:
Free shuttle buses will be available running between Brighton High School and the start/finish line area.
Q: Are roller-skates, inline skates, bikes or carriages of any kind allowed to participate in the Hungry Duck Run?
A: No, any participant using any of these on the Hungry Duck Run course will be directed off of the route.
Q: I like to run with my dog; are dogs allowed on the course?
A: The only dogs permitted are trained, certified guide dogs assisting the legally blind.
Q: Will Gear Check be available?
A: Sorry, no gear check will be available this year.
Q: What is the average temperature?
A: The average temperature in the Detroit area for July 4th is 73 degrees with an average high of  82 and an average low of 63 degrees.
Q: What time is sun rise on race day?
A: Sunrise is 6:01 on July 4th.
Q: Will Clydesdale divisions be offered?
A: Clydesdale divisions or other divisions based on a runner's weight will not be offered in this year's version of the Hungry Duck Run.

Course
Q: What is the course like?
A: The course will start and finish in Downtown Brighton and  will involve rolling residential and rural roads with a few modest hills to add a little challenge. Both races take you past many different area lakes and ponds as well as various Brighton subdivisions on a mix of rolling and flat residential and rural roads.
Q: Where are the start and finish lines?
A:

The start and finish lines are both in downtown Brighton and will be shared by both races. The HDR races will start on East Street (one block East of Grand River); both races will finish on St. Paul just east of Grand River.

Q: How long will the courses remain open?
A: The half marathon course will close on a continuous pace of 13:00 minutes per mile. Runner services cannot be guaranteed for participants beyond the 13:00 minute per mile pace.
Q: What time does the finish line close?
A: The finish line will close at 9:50 AM. Anyone finishing after this time may not receive an official finish time.
Q: So the course isn't closed to traffic?
A: No, but due to the early start time traffic should be very light for most of the race. We will also have signs and volunteers posted to warn drivers that runners are on the road.
Q: How many aid stations and type of fluid replacements are offered?
A: Water will be available at water stations located at (or near) miles 0.5, 2.5, 4.5, 7, 9, 11 and 12.5
Q: Will portable bathrooms be on the course?
A: Yes, at the Start/Finish area and at (or near) miles 0.5, 2.5, 4.5, 7, 9, 11 and 12.5
Q: What is considered the official time and how is the race timed?
A: A professional time keeper will be responsible for keeping the official time via an electronic RFID chip timing in the bib.
Q: What is the difference between chip time and clock (gun) time?
A: Clock time is the time it takes from the official start of the race to when you cross the finish line.

Chip time is the time it takes you to go from the start line to the finish line, regardless of when you cross the start line, as recorded using an electronic timing chip attached to your shoe.

Q: What are the entry deadlines?

Q: I registered on-line but need to make a change. What do I do?

Q: How do I know that my registration went through when I signed up online?
A: You will receive an e-mail that contains your confirmation number and other important information. Please make sure you keep your confirmation number.
Q: If I am injured, sick or otherwise not able to participate in the Hungry Duck Run, can I get my entry fee refunded, transferred to another individual or rolled over to next year?
A: Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
 
Packet Pick-up
Q: What are the packet pickup dates/locations?
A:

(PRE-RACE) Runnin’ Gear - 9937 E. Grand River Ave., Brighton, MI  (810) 844-0180; July 1 & July 2 from 10 AM - 6 PM; July 3 from 12PM (Noon) - 4 PM at Runnin' Gear.
(RACE DAY) Start/Finish area (corner of St. Paul and East Streets); July 4 from 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM. (MUST BE STANDING IN LINE BEFORE 6:30 AM.)

Q: If a participant is unable to pick up their bib number in person, can someone else pick it up for them?
A: Yes, they will need to bring a note signed by the individual authorizing the pick up.
Q: When will I receive my bib number?
A: You will receive your bib number at packet pick up.
 
Awards
Q: Are awards based on clock (gun) time or chip time?
A: All awards are based on CHIP time.
Q: What are the age divisions for awards for the half marathon and 5K?
A: The Hungry Duck Run Half Marathon & 5K will present awards to the top three males and females in the following age groups: 17 & under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.
Q: What other awards will be awarded?
A: In addition to the age group awards, the top men & women for both the half marathon and 5K will win awards as well as the Masters winners for both races.

July 4th Events
Q: What other events are happening in Brighton on race day?
A:

The Duckling Dash kids run will take place at 9:30 AM followed by Brighton's 4th of July Parade starting at 10:00 AM. Immediately following the parade, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club will hold their Duck Race raffle (more info on our website).
